Why It’s Okay if January Wasn’t The Sparkling Fresh Start You’d Hoped For

January 30, 2018

Hello lovelies, welcome to the last post of the first month of 2018! Can you believe January is over already? For me this month felt pretty long while still being fairly fast paced at times! It was a weird dynamic because I spent half of the month relaxing over winter break and the second half back at school in Boston. That being said, I haven’t fully adjusted to being back on campus and January didn’t necessarily go quite as well as I had hoped – and that’s perfectly okay! Many people psych themselves up for January and pile on the pressure to have a strong start to the new year. For some, this vision of a perfect and productive January comes true, but others struggle through January and end up feeling defeated come the 31st. If you’re like me and January was not as fantastic as you had hoped it would be this post is for you!

Honestly, it would be great if we could be perfect all of the time! Always waking up on time, looking super cute and checking everything off of our to-do lists at the end of the day, but this simply isn’t possible. It’s okay to slip up every now and then and it’s certainly okay if some months are worse than others. Having a lackluster January does not mean that you’re setting yourself up for a bad year, or that your chances of reaching your goals are shot. It simply means that you are human and can’t be a shiny, fantastic superstar 24/7. January is just one month of 12 so you still have 11 more chapters to learn and grow this year. Seriously, this one month is such a small sliver of the bigger picture that it’s not worth getting upset over if you didn’t start off as strong as you wanted to!

So here’s to saying goodbye to January and the little slip-ups that you may or may not have had this month! At this point, the only thing to do is reflect on things that didn’t go according to plan and take baby steps towards improving these things in February. Didn’t hit the gym quite as much as you would have liked? Missed one too many meeting or events because you didn’t budget your time well? Not to worry, simply take some time to be proud of yourself for the stuff you did accomplish and respect yourself enough to think of solutions to your problems. February is a month of love and that includes self-love! You’ve got to give yourself time to work out the bugs, be patient and don’t demand too much of yourself. Progress takes time and you’ve got plenty of it. January was just a free trial, the real show begins Feb. 1!

How was your January? Was it a great start to 2018 or did you slip up and fall short of your goals, I want to know below! If you have any tips for staying on track and having a better February, please be sure to share!

Love this! It’s so true – it’s hard to not get down on yourself if you don’t accomplish something you planned to do, but in the big picture it really is OK!

This is such a great reminder! Mine was off to a great start but then fell all out of whack the last few days of it. I made a few decisions though and feel re-aligned again!

I hope your semester is off to a good start!! I think I did pretty good with my resolutions this month, but on a personal level outside of that it wasn’t the best month for me. This post is a great reminder that it’s okay to take it easy on yourself and change comes slowly!

i toooootally agree with everything you said here!! i think it’s important for us to realize that while its the beginning of the year, it also means having to end the year before. not every new start can be super amazing 🙂

Great reminder! It feels like a lot of us set these goals for ourselves and when we don’t reach them we feel so doubtful about our capabilities. When in all reality, it is okay!

This was much needed! I think it’s also important to realize that January is only one month and you can have a fresh start any time!

Such a great reminder! Love your point about it only being one month of 12, even if this one wasn’t the best, there are still plenty more chances!

I met most of my blogging goals (yay!) and didn’t meet any personal ones. Whoops! I suppose that means I need to focus more on myself this month. It’s so hard when you love blogging though!

I also met my blogging goals and fell short on my personal goals! It’s hard to juggle both!

January definitely was not a great as I thought it would be. From be furloughed to finding out I have to pay for my last semester of school out of pocket. But Indont let that stop me. A new day and new month is always the chance to turn it around.

There is so much hype around making January the perfect, fresh start that we forget every day, every week, and every month is a fresh start. Thank you for this great reminder!

I love this!! I know so many people who struggle with January and so they say that the new year starts in February instead to give themselves some leeway!

I totally agree with this! I got sick in January so I wasn’t able to accomplish what I had hoped to either. There are still 11 more months though 🙂
